sicily-ferries.com is an independent comparison site for the ferry connections to Sicily. The island is reached from the Italian mainland: the long crossings from Genoa, Livorno, Civitavecchia and Naples to Palermo, and the short passage from Villa San Giovanni to Messina across the Strait. The routes are run by GNV, Grimaldi Lines and Caronte & Tourist; Tirrenia, which served Naples - Palermo for almost a century, withdrew from the route in November 2025. The site is published by Cruise Media GmbH.

On these crossings the ship is rarely the difficult part. The vehicle is. Sicily is an island people drive around, so most travellers book a car or a camper across rather than a seat, and that moves the tight moment of the journey from the sea to the terminal. The check-in windows belong to the operators and they are unforgiving: GNV closes two hours before departure for vehicles and one hour for foot passengers, Grimaldi Lines asks for the same two hours with a vehicle and one without, and a missed check-in is not a mistake you can undo afterwards. The long sailings from Genoa, Livorno, Civitavecchia and Naples add a cabin and a night to plan around; the shuttle at Villa San Giovanni adds neither. We give each route its operator, its crossing time and its ports, and say what changes once a vehicle is travelling with you.
